Costa dei Trabocchi, San Vito Chietino (Chieti). Region: Abruzzo (central Italy)

The traditional wooden constructions once used for fishing, the 'trabocchi' can be found south of Ortona, along the Adriatic coastline at San Vito Chietino and not far from the water's edge. They are kept afloat by wooden stilts dug deep into the sand and rocks.

The coastline in this area is quiet and rich of aromas of the sea and vegetation, orchards and olive groves. High on the hill the trabocchi are overlooked by the imposing and ancient Abbazia di S. Giovanni in Venere.

It is also here where the famous Italian writer, poet and political leader, Gabriele D'Annunzio, in his refuge wrote the most beautiful pages of 'Trinfo della Morte' (Trimph of Death).

Getting There:

San Vito Chietino is located approximately 47.5km from Pescara, which is on the Adriatic coast of Italy. To get to Pescara, catch a train from Rome Termini Station, a trip that takes between 4-5 hours. Pescara has a small airport for flights within Italy and Europe.
