Ciao Liana!
I can only imagine how busy you must be getting everything organized - but it will be worth it once you are enjoying the Italian life!! I'll be emailing my friend Francesca tonigh t so will get the Aussie club details for you. She has started working PT at Monash University in Prato so she might know of a few other expat groups/events. I'll keep you posted!
Very jealous - wish i were coming with you!! :)

Ciao Liana!
Can only imagine how excited you must be getting about your big trip! Sure you will have an amazing time - and yes I am very jealous as I am was not able to get to Italy this year :( All going well, I hope to be there next year for a friends wedding in Sept.
My friends are based in Prato, which is about a 20min train trip from Firenze (main train station), and about an hour from Bologna. It isn't your typical 'pretty' Italian town as it is very industrial (textile industry) however it is great location for me to manage solo day trips to Firenze, Bologna, Pistoia as well as go with them to Lucca, Chianti, the beach area etc.
There is an Aussie/Italian club in Florence that my friend & her parents belong to that has social events - including an Australia day dinner in Jan (everyone brings a plate!) - I'll get the details if you would be interested? I'll try to find the address for my favorite little restaurant in Firenze too - tiny little place only the locals know with amazing fresh food! 2 courses, 1/2L vino, aqua & cafe will only cost you around 20Euros!
Send me your email address & the dates that you will be in Firenze - I'll pass them on to my friend Francesca in Prato & maybe you can catch up for a prosecco! My email is paddy.mcleod@hotmail.com
a presto :)
I wish! However, since I don't have any trips planned i've decided to stretch my birthday out over a weekend to celebrate my 3 favorite places. Friday will be Italy with a small dinner at a great local Italian restaurant, Saturday will be a combination of Canada (& England) with a High Tea (with champagne to toast Prince William's wedding as it is the same day as my birthday) then moving on to Italy for Aperitivo hour at an Italian bar before ending the night on an Aussie theme at a great Melbourne lounge overlooking the city. Finally Sunday will be family friendly Aussie day with BBQ, Beer & Bowls at a Lawn Bowls Club!
Thank you for the lovely welcome note - and compliment on my photo!
I love all things Italian, so its great to have found Italian Encounters! My best friend & her family live in Prato, just outside Firenze, so I've been fortunate to go visit her once a year for the past 6 years - next visit already planned for this Christmas!!
Looking forward to sharing my experiences & exploring the site!
Ciao a presto :)
We must get more here, so we can play together!
