Trastevere, meaning "across the Tiber" (on the west bank) and south of Vatican City, is a picturesque Roman neighbourhood with many bars and restaurants--creating a lively nightlife. In the Piazza are located a large and beautiful fountain, renaissance buildings and the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Trastevere with its luminous 13th century mosaics.
